Malta Retirement Programme (MRP)
The Malta Retirement Programme (MRP) is a programme aimed at individuals who are not
in employment and are in receipt of a pension as their regular source of income.

Eligibility Criteriafor Applicants

Sufficient Resources
The applicant is in receipt of stable and regular resources sufficient to maintain himself and his dependents without recourse to the social assistance system in Malta.

Rented immovable property minimum values:
- Situated in Malta other than in the south of Malta: €9,600 per annum - Situated in Gozo or in the south of Malta: €8,750 per annum

Owned immovable property minimum values
Situated in Malta other than in the south of Malta: €275,000 - Situated in Gozo or in the south of Malta: €220,000

EU Health Insurance
The applicant is in possession of health insurance which covers himself and his dependents in respect of all risks across the EU.

75% Pension Income
The applicant’s pension should constitute at least 75% of the individual’s chargeable income.

Malta Pension Recipient
The applicant receives a pension in Malta.

Non-Maltese National
The applicant is not a Maltese national.
Tax Treatment
The individual shall be subject to tax at a rate of 15% on any income arising outside Malta that is received in Malta.
The individual shall be subject to tax at a rate of 35% on any other income that is not chargeable to tax under the MRP.
Individuals granted a special tax status in terms of the MRP will need to pay a minimum tax of €7,500 in respect of the main applicant and €500 for every dependent.

Company Board Role
Hold a non-executive post on the board of a company registered in Malta.

Philanthropy, Education & R&D Activities
Partake in activities related to any institution, trust, or foundation of a public character and any other similar organisation or body of persons, which are also of a public character, that is engaged in philanthropic, educational, or research and development work in Malta.
