Malta Nomad Residence Permit
The Nomad Residence Permit, offers eligible third-country nationals the opportunity to legally reside in Malta while continuing remote work for an employer or business based outside Malta.

Eligibility Criteriafor Applicants
Proof of Remote Work Capability
Prove their work can be carried out remotely and independently of any location
Applicants are required to:
Inform the relevant Authority of their intended stay duration, which can be between:
- 91 to 180 days, or
- 181 to 365 days
Have one of the following employment/ business conditions:
- A valid employment contract with an employer registered in a foreign country; or
- Conduct business for a company registered in a foreign country of which they are a partner or shareholder; or
- Offer freelance or consulting services primarily to foreign clients with whom they have contracts in place.
Eligible Family Members
The following family members may be included in the application

Spouse
Spouse in a monogamous marriage or a relationship similar to the status of a marriage, civil union, domestic partnership, or common law marriage.

Children
Minor children, including adopted children, of the applicant and spouse.

Adult unmarried children
Adult unmarried children (including adopted) who are principally dependent on the applicant
Main Requirements
A minimum annual gross income of €42,000 (plus an additional 20% of the median wage is to be added per family member)
Valid travel documents
Health insurance covering risks in Malta for the applicant and dependents
Valid rental or purchase agreement for immovable property in Malta (requirements on this can be provided upon request)
Permit Term & Residency
Applicants intending to stay:
less than 183 days in Malta will be issued a National Visa.
Those intending to stay:
Up to 365 days or more will be issued a Residence Permit.
The Nomad Residence Permit is issued for:
A maximum of 1 year and can be renewed at the discretion of the Residency Malta Agency for up to 4 years.
Taxation for Digital Nomads
Digital Nomads residing and working in Malta under this permit are subject to:

10% income tax rate
A 10% income tax rate on income derived from authorised remote work
